On Friday, July 31st from 6:30-8:30pm, the library will host a pool party at the Wathena pool. Admission to the pool will be free to all library users that evening, and we’ll have snacks and great prizes to give away, too. All ages are welcome. We’re having such a great summer of reading here at the library. Just a reminder that you have about two weeks to read and complete your summer reading bingo board. Don’t have a summer reading bingo board? Don’t know what a summer reading bingo board is? Stop by any branch and we’ll explain. Every bingo board that you turn in gives you one more entry into the grand prize drawing for your age group, so read, read, read! All reading bingo boards are due by July 31st to any branch. They will not be eligible for the drawing if turned in after that date.
Explore your roots with Ancestry.com. We will be having a class at the Elwood library Thursday, June 25th from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm. All branches of Library District 1 have free access to Ancestry.com when you are inside the branch.
On Monday, June 29 at 1:00 pm at the Elwood Library, all ages are invited to come and see Rare Jewels of the Rainforest, an educational bird show featuring a toucan and a huge eagle-owl. Lots more to come this summer, so like us on Facebook to see upcoming events – www.facebook.com/LD1DC.
We’d also like to wish you a Happy Fourth of July and let you know that all library branches will be closed on Saturday, July 4th. Happy Independence Day, America!
Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 30th from 11am to 1pm. We’re closing the street in front of the Troy library for a Superhero Summer Kick-off Carnival. Play carnival games, enter to win great prizes, and get a chance to sign up for summer reading to win even more. We’ve invited local heroes from the community, so police, fire, and emergency services heroes will be there with their vehicles for you to check out. Come hungry, since we’ll be serving a free lunch of hotdog, chips, and a drink.
